Hey guys!

With my usual skill at time management, I made this virtual season suggestion two days before a bunch of uni deadlines. So... please bear with me while I try to juggle both my fannish and real life obligations and lack the organization an undertaking like this would need for another couple of days. *boards the failboat*

Anyway, a quick summary of my ideas for this project:

- The basic idea is, as I said in my original post, to develop this virtual season based on the Doctor and his new companion from the next special. I think this would be simpler than using an OC or an already existing character, since agreeing on a consistent OC characterization would probably be hard, and using an already existing character would likely lead to dissension as to who this existing character should be. If slight retconning of the April special's plot is necessary--as in, if the companion dies/gets stranded in a different universe/gets mind-wiped in the end--I'm sure we can come up with an alternate ending that will let us use the character further.

- We'd have to find 10 authors and at least 5 back-up writers who are willing and able to write an episode-like story to a deadline.

- We'd have to find these people before the next special airs. (If anyone knows the exact date, that would be a great help. I just know it's going to be sometime in early/mid-April.)

- We'd have to make sure that every author who signed up to write a story has the opportunity to see the special.

- After the special has aired, I'd like to get all of you lovely writerly people into a chat room and talk about what each of you wants to do and how you want to do it. This is to make sure that we don't get the same plot several times over. After all, it's supposed to be like an actual season of Doctor Who, and the nice thing about this show is that the series actually have a proper seasonal arc. Usually, anyway.

- As soon as everybody has figured out what they want to write, we'd have to set up a schedule and assign deadlines.

- Last but not least, we'd have to make sure that the stories do actually get written. This is where back-up writers, betas, cheerleaders and general morale boosting personnel would come in.

Input, ideas, anything that's on your mind--let me know in a comment. Also let me know if you're just expressing enthusiasm for the idea, or if you could imagine joining in as a writer. Feel free to join/watch the community for further updates as well as to pimp it out to anyone you think may be interested.

Thanks for your interest, guys!

Ok, I'm in. If you'd be happy enough with me writing an episode I'd love too. Plots aren't *exactly* my usual thing, but I'm working on that.

If you need an extra hand to organise as well give me a yell.

One writerly mod, check. ;)

Sure I want you to write an episode. I think the whole plot developing thing will be more a collaborative thing, anyway, so don't worry about that too much yet.

I think this is a really great idea. I'm not so good at doing the actual writing, but I'm definitely willing to act as a beta, or help out with anything else.
19th-Mar-2009 01:06 am (UTC)
Cool. Betas are important, so I'm happy to have a couple. I myself will probably act mostly as an editor/beta, except if we can't get enough writers.

Woohoo! I'm definitely in. Just a few questions, though: Will these stories be in script format? Full episode length? What's the plan, guv?

Editing's my specialty, so I'd love to do a bit o' BETAing. I wouldn't mind writing an episode as well. I'm good with plot and I've written a fair bit of general/action-adventure Doctor Who stories, though I should probably leave
that to the more experienced fanficcers. Maybe a backup author, eh?

You got my question, there!
19th-Mar-2009 01:10 am (UTC)
I don't really want to set a strict format or word-count, because every writer prefers a different style. The stories would have a full-episode-length plot, but whether that plot is told in 5,000 or 50,000 words or maybe even in a 45-page-script, that's up to the writer.

We'll see how many authors we can get! Thanks for your enthusiasm. :)

I'm in. However, if the Easter Special companion is horrid (who knows, she could be!), what should we do, then?

Also, do you want us to write in story format, or in script format?
19th-Mar-2009 12:34 am (UTC)
Hehe, great minds think alike!
19th-Mar-2009 12:35 am (UTC)
*highfive*
19th-Mar-2009 01:24 am (UTC)
I doubt that the companion will be horrid. RTD will be writing the episode, and while he's got some issues as a writer, characterization isn't one of them. Martha, Donna and Rose are all his characters, and they're all stable and strong enough. She may not be to everyone's taste, but I doubt that RTD will throw a Grace or a Peri at us. (I also know the actress who's going to be playing this companion, and I can't see her having been cast for the role of a weak companion.)

Oh, and as I told sevendayloan, I don't really want to set a strict format for the stories. The plot needs to be episode-like, but the length or format is entirely up to the author.
19th-Mar-2009 01:15 am (UTC)
I will tentatively throw myself in.
19th-Mar-2009 01:27 am (UTC)
Wooh~, good to have you!

Please, please write us a Doctor/TARDIS episode? *obvious shipper is obvious*
19th-Mar-2009 01:29 am (UTC)
This should totally be the season arc.
19th-Mar-2009 01:29 am (UTC)
It's you!
19th-Mar-2009 01:31 am (UTC)
It's me, why yes it is!

You didn't think I wouldn't try, now did you?
19th-Mar-2009 09:50 am (UTC)
*pokes toe into the disturbed and disgruntled s5 waters*

I likes this idea, but I'm not always the best at, ehem, deadlines? though I can usually push myself into them if its serious. Oh, and I'm giving you pimpage on http://deathbyaspirin.proboards43.com/ because this is a cool idea and some of the authors there might be interested.
19th-Mar-2009 10:40 am (UTC)
Pimpage! Awesome. Also, don't worry--I myself am rather bad at deadlines. >_> Maybe you could get a co-writer? I find that usually makes the meeting-the-deadline thing a lot easier.

Anyway, welcome on board! Glad to have you.

I will so write an episode. And I am so into this Doctor/TARDIS plot arc thinger. I think they've done the old girl a terrible injustice in New!Who.

*is having an ideas*

I'm so glad this is going through, luv. It's a great idea.
20th-Mar-2009 07:24 pm (UTC)
I think they've done the old girl a terrible injustice in New!Who.
I can't see her being treated a lot differently in Old Who? Or do you mean the interior design? Hee, maybe it's just me, but I actually prefer the New Who design.

I hope it'll go through. So far, we don't really have enough writers. Glad to have you on board though!

I would like the write an episode. Need to get an idea... but I'm sure I can come up with something.

Can't wait for this to get on the way. It sounds like great fun.
20th-Mar-2009 07:25 pm (UTC)
The idea is to come up with plots mainly in a group effort anyway, so... no ideas is no problem. :) Good to have you on board!
20th-Mar-2009 12:19 am (UTC)
I'm up to try to write a few over time, count me in!
20th-Mar-2009 07:26 pm (UTC)
Cool, thanks! Good to have you on the team.
24th-Mar-2009 01:44 pm (UTC)
I might like to have a go at this. :D *has ideas*
